All year round, we should strive to shop, cook and eat with as little food waste as possible. This is particularly important during the festive season, when people cooking for the entire family tend to exaggerate, making enough food to feed a small army, and then the delicious dishes end up being eaten by the dog, or worse, thrown into the trash.<\/p>\n

In the run-up to Christmas, let’s pay attention to conscious shopping and eating, as well as to quantity, so that as little food as possible goes to waste. We’ve got some useful tips that you can quickly read even in the midst of the rush:[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

  1. Make an accurate shopping list<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Plan what you’re going to cook, for how many people and exactly what ingredients you’ll need, so there’s less chance of buying unnecessary things.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

    1. Store food properly<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      We know how much you have to keep an eye on around the holidays, so it’s important to be vigilant: if you don’t store the food you buy properly from the start, or forget to put the prepared dishes in the fridge, they can easily go bad.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

      1. Freeze any leftover fruit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If you have bought too much fruit, don’t let it spoil, instead wash it, dice it and freeze it in sealable boxes or bags. You can then use them in smoothies or even homemade ice cream.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

        1. Use as much of the food you buy as possible<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          When you peel your vegetables, don’t throw away the peel! Wash them well and then cook them into a stock that you can use for other dishes. Use the stems of whatever you can. For example, if you’re stuffing mushrooms, chop up the stems for mushroom stew. You can also use the bones to make a delicious broth. And with the leftover herbs, you can easily whip up a super dip or even pesto.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

            If your fruit or vegetables are beyond saving, don’t throw them in the bin!
